The Lowdown on Lash Extensions
Are you curious about eyelash extensions? I am going to share the process, tips, and answer common questions about eyelash extensions.
I get my lashes done at the Lash Lounge in Winter Park, FL. One thing that sets the Lash Lounge apart is how they tailor a perfect design for each individual’s unique eye shape using their custom-built mapping system. They provide both classic lashes and multi-volume lash extensions, using only premium synthetic material that is curled to imitate a natural lash. I get the multi-volume plus, with a D curl. I would say my favorite thing about having eyelash extensions aside from having full, long lashes is that I wake up and already have gorgeous, bright eyes!
THE CONSULTATION: Before starting the service, your lash stylist will have a quick consultation to determine which lashes are best for your eye shape. You get to choose the style (flaring on the side or middle), type (silk vs mink), and curl.
THE SERVICE: You start by lying down on a comfy table bed. Your stylist will then place aloe vera gel pads under the eyes. Then they’ll tape down the lower lashes to prevent them from getting caught with the adhesive. Next, they’ll separate each lash and individually apply a lash extension with medical grade adhesive. After completion, they’ll “cure” the lashes with a mini blow dryer and curing agent (to help the adhesive set). The tape and gel pads are then removed. The service generally takes between 60 to 120 minutes to apply a full set and refills can be done in as little as 30 to 60 minutes.
AFTER CARE: Wait at least 8 hours before getting your eyelashes wet so the adhesive can fully cure the bond between your natural lash and the extensions. While sleeping, lashes can tangle or flip to the side. Brush through your lashes each morning with a clean mascara wand to reshape the extension and keep them fluffed into place. The overall upkeep is very minimal and very easy to manage. To clean the lashes, use an oil free product such as micellar water. Products containing oil can loosen the adhesive.
HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST? An average eyelid has approximately 100 natural hairs which shed at an average rate of 20-30% every 2 weeks. Therefore, when the natural hair sheds, so does the extension that was attached to it. Since new hairs are always growing in, refills can be performed to attach extensions to the new growth keeping the lashes looking full continuously or for as long as you wish to maintain them.
HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO REFILL THE LASHES? On average, refills are recommended every 2-3 weeks to keep the lashes looking their best. With proper maintenance semi-permanent eyelash extensions can be kept up indefinitely through regular refills.
WILL THE EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES? Their application technique and premium products will not damage your natural lashes. It is imperative to the health of your lashes to have each natural hair isolated when an extension is adhered to it and ensure proper separation so that the hairs can continue to grow and shed as they would naturally.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SILK AND MINK LASHES? The silk lashes are tapered slightly at the ends and are thicker through the body, with a dark semi-matte satin finish providing a beautiful full appearance. The mink lashes are the lightest and most vibrant lash extension, tapered approximately 2/3 down from the tip with a beautiful deep black, semi-gloss finish providing a longer-lasting hold and gorgeous soft appearance.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLASSIC AND MULTI-VOLUME LASHES?Classic Lash extensions = 1 extension is applied to 1 natural eyelash. Multi-Volume Plus lash extensions = 2 or more of the lightest lash extensions to 1 natural eyelash.
WHAT SHOULD I DO PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT?
