A WEEK IN CALIFORNIA
I just got back from a week long trip to California. The whole trip came about because my good friend/ hair stylist was in need of a hair model for a hair technical at Nine Zero One Salon. I immediately looked for flights and messaged my travel babe (Donna) to see if she wanted to make a trip out of it. She of course said yes, so the planning began!
We spent half our time in LA and the other half in San Francisco. In LA we stayed with our friend Carly who we met through a Facebook group called "Girls Love Travel." We stayed in West Hollywood, but visited several places nearby. Every morning we started with Carly's homemade acai + pitaya bowls- literally the best way to start your day!
Day 1: We did a little hike to see the Hollywood sign, it was very hot so we all decided to not go all the way to the top lol. Then we drove out to Venice Beach and explored Abbot Kinney Blvd and the beach of course! Abbot Kinney is a street full of cute + trendy shops and restaurants. I recommend stopping at The Butcher's Daughter and Blue Star Donuts. Venice beach was definitely one of the highlights of the trip; I love the chill, beachy, and laid back vibe.
Day 2: It was Carly's birthday so we drove down to her hometown in Laguna Beach. We went to the beach for a little bit and then drove to meet our friend for lunch at Cafe Gratitude in Newport Beach. After lunch we explored Corona Del Mar and Costa Mesa. That evening we went to Pirate's Cove to watch the sunset.
Day 3: We hit all the "basic white girl" must sees in LA. The pink wall, Alfred's Coffee, the Girl's Tour wall... and so on. For lunch we picked up Fala Bar (because I can never have too much falafel lol) and went to Beverly Hills for a nice picnic. That evening we drove to the Santa Monica Pier and rode the ferris wheel as the sun went down.
After LA, Donna and I rented a car and drove the PCH to reach our next destination, San Francisco! Along the way we stopped in Malibu and Big Sur. Big Sur is a definite must see! I recommend going to McWay Falls and Bixby Creek Bridge for the most breathtaking view!
In SF we woke up early every morning to catch the sunrise. Our first day we shot the sunrise at Fort point. It's right on the water and a great place to see the Golden Gate Bridge and possibly catch some surfers. We then grabbed some coffee at The Mill and went on our way to explore SF. We ate lunch at this vegan walk up eatery called Flying Falafel. Some other areas we explored were China Town, Fisherman's Wharf, and Tartine Manufactory.
Our second day we ate acai bowls at Nourish Cafe and then went to the Golden Gate Bridge to shoot and also walk across it. For lunch we ate at Gracias Madre, they have delicious Mexican food that is all vegan! Some other spots we checked out were Dandelion Chocolate, Mission Dolores Park, Mt. Tamalpai, and Sol Food.
